The Crusaders’ Coliseum is an arena complex located in the center of the Argent Tournament Grounds, in northeastern Icecrown. The bosses drop tier 9 gears in this raid. The following videos are for 10 man mode.

1. The Beasts of Northrend Encounter (1st boss fight)

The Beasts of Northrend encounter is made up of three sub-encounter:

  • Combat Gormok the Impaler, a magnataur
  • Combat Acidmaw and Combat Dreadscale, a pair of jormungar
  • Combat Icehowl, a wendigo

Things to remember for the Acidmaw and Dreadscale (2nd phase) fight

Please read the following bit of advice from “WowWiki” for this boss if you plan to attend the guild raid.

The key mechanic in this phase is interaction between Burning Bile and Paralytic Toxin.

  • Acidmaw applies Paralytic Toxin; Dreadscale applies Burning Bile.
  • Players with Paralytic Toxin can get it removed by running close to a player with Burning Bile and taking a tick of fire damage.
  • Burning Bile falls off naturally and cannot be removed.
  • One worm is mobile and the other stationary. Regularly they burrow themselves and switch state after resurfacing.

Both worms can be tanked normally. They apply their special attack depending on their state, that is the mobile worm applies it only to its tank, while the stationary worm puts it on a random group of players (AoE). The mobile worm also spawns poison circles around itself (similar to Grobbulus), thus must be moved.

Initially, Dreadscale is mobile and Acidmaw stationary. This means that random raid members get Paralytic Toxin, and they must run towards the Dreadscale tank to get rid of it. After the first burrow, only the Acidmaw tank gets Toxin, but he must get close to the random raid member who has Burning Bile. Usually it’s better if one of the players affected by Burning Bile runs to the Acidmaw tank, not vice versa.

Positioning is important. No players except the tank should ever stand in front of one of the worms. The distance between players should be as large as possible, so that fewer raid members get Paralytic Toxin at once (it’s an AoE centered on one player with 10 yard radius). At the same time, players can’t be more than half the room away from the Dreadscale tank, else the toxin freezes them before they reach the tank.

Normally, Acidmaw is killed first, to get rid of Paralytic Toxin, even though after one worm dies, the other enrages for at least 50% extra damage (10 and 25 player normal).

Hunters should mark both snakes when they burrow so they are easily followed underground.

2. Lord Jaraxxus (2nd boss fight)

Lord Jaraxxus is the second encounter of the Trial of the Crusader raid instance. Lord Jaraxxus is summoned by Grand Warlock Wilfred Fizzlebang when the gnome attempts to summon a doomguard for the next challenge. Jaraxxus kills Fizzlebang for his efforts, and next plans to kill the player.

3. The Faction Champions (3rd boss fight)

This fight is a PvP-styled encounter against a team of the opposite faction:

4. Eydis Darkbane and Combat Fjola Lightbane – Twin Val’kyr (4th boss fight)

The Twin Val’kyr, Combat Fjola Lightbane and Combat Eydis Darkbane, are a pair making up the fourth (and ostensibly final) encounter in the Trial of the Crusader raid. They both share the same health pool.

5. Anub’arak (5th boss fight)

Now that you are 80 you can solo him to get this mount without having to worry about loosing the roll.

High Priest Thekal was the High Priest of the Primal God Shirvallah, the god tiger. Thekal comes with 2 named humanoid adds (Zealot Lor’khan and Zealot Zath) and 2 tigers. The 2 humanoid adds are a shaman and a rogue. Thekal initiates the fight in priest form. If any of the adds or Thekal dies, the remaining ones will resurrect them. This means all 3 must die simultaneously (within a 10 second window).

After dying once, Thekal respawns as a Tiger. In this form he can charge, Flurry, enrage, and Force Punch. He spawns 2 tigers periodically throughout the fight.

This boss encounter is pretty easy anyway but this trick makes the fight even easier.

Gothik the Harvester has two phases. In phase two he uses Shadowbolt – Gothik will chain cast 1 second Shadowbolts for 4500 to 5500 (2880 to 3520 in 10 man) Shadow damage on his primary aggro target.

Your group can Mana drain him completely during the 1st phase so he can’t use the Shadowbolt spell in 2nd phase which makes the fight very easy.

In order to do this trick, organize your Warlocks, Hunters and Priests to stay on the live side and mana burn the boss in phase1 (Gothik the harvester is immune to all damage in phase1, but he is not immune to mana drain). Mana drains now take a percentage of the mana instead of a flat amount so your group can easily mana drain him completely (easier in 25 man as you have more players who can cast mana drain).

When he can’t cast Shaodowbolt, he uses his melee abilities which doesn’t do much damage. As I said earlier, this boss fight is considered to be one of the easiest in Naxxramas but this trick makes it even easier and fun.

Leaving the Twilight Drakes up increases Sartharion’s fire damage, attack speed and damage which is a lot of damage for the tank and this is very hard for the healers to heal through.

If you have a druid in the raid group then have him cast Hurricane on Sarthrion while the raid group is killing the Drakes. Hurricane works on bosses which means when Sartharion is affected by Hurricane, his cast speed and attack speed will be reduced by 50%. So his frame breath will become a 3 seconds cast instead of 1.5 seconds and also his attacks will be slower. This in turn reduces a lot of damage and is easy for the healers to keep the raid group alive. Hope this helps.

Have everybody stand in the room before the hallway then let one player go in and start the event and run back in the room. Once he despawns run down the hallway and to the back room where all the trash spawns. This is where the group is going to aoe down all the trash spawns without having to worry about the frostfire damage and the tank loosing aggro while running and eventually wiping the group. When the group is ready  and positioned, send one player back to start of the hallway to start the event.

How to Defeat Skadi under 3 minutes to complete the achievement

Once you figure out the gauntlet trick, defeating Skadi under 3 minutes is really easy. This is what you do:

  • Use the gauntlet trick described above and start the event.
  • Keep killing the trash spawns until your group has 6 harpoons.
  • Run back down the hallway and reset Skadi
  • Now do the gauntlet trick again but this time your group already has 6 harpoons so use the harpoon gun as soon as Skadi gets withing range and down him.

Archavon the Stone Watcher drops a mix of PvP and PvE tier 7 items. The trash mobs and the boss have the same ability in normal (10 man) and heroic (25 man) difficulty. The boss mainly has more health and does more damage in the heroic difficulty.

Strategy and things to remember during the fights in Vault of Archavon

Vault of Archavon is a very easy and short raid instance but I have been in a few pugs where players had no idea what they were doing and it turned out to be a wipe fest. So read the following section carefully and keep it in your mind during the fights and your group should be able to clear the raid instance very easily and quickly.

The Vault of Archavon raid instance has a few Archavon Warder trash pulls and then the main boss (Archavon the Stone Watcher).

Archavon Warder (Trash Pulls)

  • The offtank needs to taunt the Warder and take aggro from the main tank immediately when a Warder Shield Crushes (the affected player takes 300% physical damage) the main tank. Otherwise your group will end up with a dead tank (most likely).
  • Immediately move away from the Rock Shower (shower of rocks and debris that causes damage per seccond) affected area.
  • Keep your distance when the Warder whirls (Causes 15k in normal or 25k in heroic, damage to nearby players) around.

Archavon the Stone Watcher (The main and only boss)

  • The Raid group needs to kill Archavon within 5 minutes or he will enrage and wipe the raid so dps as hard as you can.
  • Keep an eye on the threat meter and make sure that you don’t pass the tanks in threat.
  • Get out of Choking Cloud right away… the Cloud deals a lot of damage.
  • Its better to stand still if you are targeted by Rock Shards. If someone near you is targeted by Rock Shards, move away from them. This will limit the Rock Shards damage to one person at a time.

If everyone in the raid group can keep these simple set of things in their minds and maintain the dps then you can clear this raid instance in less than 20 minutes without any wipes.

Minimum Requirement for Tanks

Defense Rating at least: 540 (Defense Cap)
Health: 27k
Armor: 23k+

Minimum Requirement for DPS class

The key thing to remember for the dps classes for this raid is that the main boss (Archavon the Stone Watcher) is on an enrage timer of 5 minutes, which means he will enrage if not killed quickly enough and wipe the raid instantly. So every dps class need to output at least a decent amount of dps to down this boss.

  • All dps class should have at least more than 1.3k dps for normal (10 man) and 1.6k dps for Heroic difficulty (25 man).
  • Classes whose dps depends on Attack Power should have at least 2.8k Attack Power.
  • Classes whose dps depends on Spell Power should have at least 1450 Spell Power.
  • Dps should have at least 85% towards the hit cap.

Note that it is possible to down the boss with a few dps in the raid with less than the suggested dps but then the fight becomes challenging as Archavon the Stone Watcher (main boss) will enrage and wipe the raid if he is not down within 5 minutes.

Minimum Requirement for Healers

  • Healers should have at least 1600 Bonus Heal and 600 mana regeneration.
  • 190 MP5 (Mana regeneration while in combat)
